ADDITION TO THE HARWOOD MUSEUM OF ART
TAOS, NEW MEXICO. Design consultant to
Conron and Woods Architects
PROGRAM:
Develop preliminary design of a new gallery, auditorium and service wing of the museum.
PROJECT:
Design indirect northlight daylighting system for the new gallery. Design auditorium with flexibility for chamber music, lecture and projection media with 'shapeshifter' window with transparency, blackout and screen features. Resolve the building exterior as a
set of offset stucco bands casting shadows down the walls as the sun follows its diurnal and seasonal cycle. The building's a kind of sundial. Use of daylight in the gallery and sunlight to activate the exterior surface pays homage to the brilliant Taos light and moody sky that inspired the Taos school of painters
